Tarie Huber's Oral History Videos -- Life in Victor, Colorado: A five-part series of videos produced from an Oral History Interview with Tarie Huber -- beloved, long-time Victor Resident.
Long-time Victor resident, Tarie Huber (1936-2021), shared her family history and memories of living in Victor in an oral history interview videographed at her home in Goldfield in September of 2018. Tarie was 82 years young at the time. La Jean Greeson facilitated the interview by posing questions. Marion Zachary videographed and edited the interview into five parts.
The five part video series sponsored by the Victor Heritage Society can be accessed by searching for the Victor Heritage Society Channel on YouTube, or by clicking the following highlighted links:
Part 1 of 5 -- Stories about Tarie Huber's great grandparents coming to Colorado in the 1890's, Tarie's grandparents meeting in Victor, Granny's restaurant, her mother, aunts and uncle.
Part 2 of 5 -- Stories about Eddie McDermott (who survived a fall down the elevator shaft at the Victor Hotel), Lyda Blair Rayburn's Stope Cafe & Bar, and Tarie's job as a teenager marking the liquor bottles sold at the Victor Pharmacy.
Part 3 of 5 -- Stories about Tarie getting married to Jeane Huber, first living in a noisy apartment on the second floor of the Post Office / Gold Coin Cafe Block, Jeane's father, and a Wedding Anniversary dinner at Lil Clark's Gold Coin Cafe.
Part 4 of 5 -- Stories of Tarie working at the Gold Coin Cafe (for Lil Clark), Zeke's Place (for Ohrt Yeager), Victor School Lunchroom, and Teller County Courthouse (Assessor's & Clerk's Offices).
Part 5 of 5 -- Stories of the Airplane Pilot (who narrowly flew over the Washington School and Saint Victor's Catholic Church but crashed in Goldfield), Grave Robbers at Sunnyside Cemetery, the Nude Sunbather along Rangeview Road, French Blanche LeCoq at Midway, building a home in Goldfield, and other memories.
The videos were first presented to the public on the BIG SCREEN at the Victor Community Center (July 7, 2019) as part of a series of events commemorating the 125th Anniversary of the Incorporation of the City of Mines in 1894.
Thanks to our dear friend Tarie Huber (who for many years staffed the Alta Vista Vistors' Center where she told many of these stories), La Jean Greenson (interviewer), Marion Zachary (videographer), and the Huber Family (who generously assisted in making it possible for Tarie to share and preserve her family history and stories).
