Additional Background Information About the Project is Shown Below.

The Committee to help recreate the Teller County WWII Veterans Memorial Roll of Honor in Victor was formed in 2020.

Volunteers serving on the committee to recreate the Teller County World War II
Memorial Roll of Honor in Victor included Ned Sterne, Stephan Rob,
Niels Hyder, & Sheila Stanley.
Essential technical assistance to the committee was provided by Jean Greeson & Sue Kochevar.

As shown below, a Teller County World War II Roll of Honor that for 77 years graced the wall
of the Monarch Block at the corner of Third Street and Victor Avenue in Victor was
painted over by a new owner of the building in the summer of 2020.

To resurrect this important piece of Teller County history, a Memorial Committee came together in 2020 to give the Roll of Honor a new home in the City of Victor's Wallace Park at the corner of Second Street and Victor Avenue.  The original wall (that was plagued by peeling paint) was replaced by a more durable memorial with names etched on black granite panels covering a stainless steel frame and encircled by a walkway and benches.  See mock-up below.

The Memorial Committee worked to include all men and women from Teller County who:
  • Were enlisted in the military between December 7, 1941 and September 2, 1945, and
  • Had lived in Teller County prior to or within that timeframe.
The Memorial Committee solicited donations to complete the project in several ways:
  1. Tax deductible donations by check sent to the Southern Teller County Focus Group Corp.
  2. Cash donation boxes located at Victor businesses.
  3. Online donations submitted through the Save the Teller County Veterans Wall gofundme webpage at: https://www.gofundme.com/f/jq3md-save-the-teller-county-veterans-wall

The Victor Heritage Society donated $1,000 toward completion of this worthy project.  The VHS Team of Volunteers thanks everyone who joined in the effort to help recreate the new, long-lasting Teller County World War II Veterans Memorial Roll of Honor in Victor's Wallace Park.
